Order in the chaos : timing of insect cuticle formation

The insect cuticle is an inward and outward barrier against outflow and inflow of water, solutes and xenobiotics thereby stabilising organismal physiology. Mechanisms of cuticle formation have been extensively studied especially in the last decade using the fruit fly Drosophla melanogaster and the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum as model insects. However, the timing issue of cuticle formation has not been addressed in detail. In this presentation, I will address this problem and discuss our recent results in this respect.
